Richard Moyer: 3 Poems

CANADA GEESE

Across the hill

geese move in solid line.

Already scorched

the green fields where

they grazed in spring.

Black beaks poke the air,

point towards

pond, water.

DOCTOR

My busy schedule

involves more than

medical journals,

drug salesmen,

patients.

I am an artist,

discovering illness

not just

by tests but

by intuition.

I detect sickness

in a glance from an eye,

the unsteady hand,

sadness in a face,

a hesitant walk.

AT THE PARTY

Munching on Caesar salad

while laughing with a

pretty 37 year old woman

who smiles lovingly at me

really makes 75 year old me

feel young.

At home I confront old age and

take Zantac for an acid stomach,

Lipitor to lower my cholesterol,

Avodart for benign prostate enlargement,

Starlix for diabetes.

This  gives me grave thoughts.
