The grass
is growing again, and so is the gang. Three of our writers for the May
issue are new to Creek Road Gang.
In the prose department, Dave Tick, musician, composer, writer
and teacher, takes us back to a seashore community in 1958 for an
ordinary day in the life of a little boy in his story “The End of
Superman.” He joins some of our Creek
Road Gang “regulars” in the story-writing area. The 8th
installment of Nathaniel Watson Ladd’s autobiography gives a picture of
Law School in the 1870s, a bit different from today’s education in the
law. Len Gottesman’s “Having Babies is Fun!” takes us through the
surprising experiences of waiting for that first child. Kristin Strid
takes us house hunting. Jackie Kearins explores summer at home with kids
back from college, and I take you on a tour of a good man’s bad dream.
We also bring two poets new to our gang. Poet Lynn Ciesielski, a
former special education teacher, contributes “An Eve to Await,” a
prose poem which will transport you into the midst of a large family’s
holiday preparations under grandmother’s watchful, nurturing presence.
Our other new-to-us poet is Katie Rose Convery, who takes us into the
heart of a family in “Lady of the Forest”. Veteran Creek Road Gang
contributors Janice Ewing, with a set of seasonal haiku, and Joe
Quinton, touching on childhood, change and growth, fill out our poetry
section.
On our wish list:
We’d still like to see reviews of memoirs and
autobiographies.
We’re interested in having some life story interviews.
Artist/writers: We’re open to a graphic autobiographical
story.
Welcome to all you returning readers, and to the new readers
we’re picking up daily! Look around, find something you enjoy, keep
coming back, and tell your friends about us. It’s a lot like Jello with Creek Road Gang –
There’s
always room for more!
