Gloria Kresch:

Sisters, a Pantoum

copyright 2009
The poem SISTERS is a poem in the style of Pantoum.  A Pantoum is any number of quatrains where lines 2 and 4 of the preceding stanza recur as lines 1 and 3 of the succeeding stanza.

SISTERS

A city built on hills of stone
where Evelyn lives
flying eight thousand miles to see her
a few days with her, comfort her

where Evelyn lives
houses tan in the heat of the sun
a few days with her, comfort her
she had lived a good life, she tells me

houses tan in the heat of the sun
she can not roam to see them
she had lived a good life, she tells me
she aches to really live, free, even now

she can not roam to see them
a city built on hills of stone
she aches to really live, free, even now
flying eight thousand miles to see her, comfort her
