Deborah Purdy:

keep going
a poem

keep going

keep going

my father would say

evenings as i practiced

playing the piano

instead of helping my mother make dinner

he’d sit in a chair

the green one in the corner

of the living room

close his eyes and listen

i’d hit a wrong key

and stop playing

then hear him say

don’t stop when you make a mistake

keep going
